Japan MOD Annual White Paper

Japan’s Ministry of Defense’s annual white paper (Defense of Japan 2009) has been published. The document articulates that department’s increased interest in using the space domain for C4ISR and other enabling missions.
Of particular note, the document’s Section 4, “New Approaches to Space and Ocean” asserts that, “In the future, the Ministry of Defense intends to vigorously conduct examination on specific measures, in coordination with related ministries, including the Cabinet Secretary, based on the basic Guidelines and the Basic Plan for Space Policy in order to promote new development and use of space in the security field.”
